This iconic playground holds more than just play value, it is a tool to support the overall academic mission of ACS by creating a physical environment to support that mission. It answers the quantitative need for space and the qualitative for interactivity, flexibility and modularity. Its atmosphere emphasizes the learning experience, supporting connectivity and communication. By integrating outdoor learning, reflecting on contemporary learning methods and encouraging interdisciplinary learning, the playground celebrates the school’s wealth of natural features with added environmental sensitivity. This area was an invitation to reconsider the balance between hard and soft surfaces and to the creation of a high quality memorable landscape displaying convenience through usage diversity.
