Our design for the Ammatour ecological retreat, in Lebanon, was aimed at optimizing the visitors’ multidimensional experience of the exceptional landscape. Born from the visions of a grassroots initiative, the retreat aims at promoting environmental awareness and organic production in a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Morphologically, the site encompasses a cliff exposed to prevailing winds and a perennial water course that runs at the bottom of the site. The circuit gradually unfolds along a defined trail, dotted with activities which abide by the existing site’s potential. Gathering spaces towards the bottom end of the cliff overlook the surrounding landscape and immerse the users in a sensorial experience as they observe a nearby waterfall. These resting spaces are intended for sharing and discussing the users’ experiences of the landscape over an organic meal for all to enjoy and learn from.
