The macro-site here is located on the edge between the holy perimeter of Makkah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its outskirt districts. The concept for this project was to maximize the site’s connectivity through a pilgrim’s promenade. We proposed an effective set of links to amend the circulation network and to connect the urban fabric with the natural landscape. Being a highly valuable and culturally delicate land, the challenge was to produce a design that both respected and promoted its importance. Our proposal called for a diverse set of parks to be installed. Linear parks were laid out along roads to efficiently connect the scattered series of pocket parks throughout the area and to aid in reducing traffic nuisances and overall pollution. Additionally, we proposed a riparian promenade and natural reserves to both preserve and enrich the cultural landscape of Fayhaa.
