Our focus for this project was to address the visual, perceptual and socio-cultural dimensions of the streetscape throughout the village of Leighwairiya, in Qatar. Through our analysis we came to recognize the distinctiveness of Leghwairiya’s rural desert landscape which helped inspire our vision and objectives. Understanding this uniqueness became the foundation for planning a culturally and environmentally sustainable town. We proposed to establish a new landscape character by integrating the existing natural and man-made site conditions with the project’s main aims; which were, namely, to beautify the city and to make available to the inhabitants a set of high quality amenity services.
